March is “Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Month”. Many of you may have heard of MS or know of someone who has been diagnosed with it. Being familiar with MS can help you understand what a person might be feeling and enable you to support and empathize with them better. Here are a few facts:

MS is a disease in which a person’s immune system attacks the protective coating around the nerves. This causes the communication between the brain and the rest of a person’s body to deteriorate and can cause permanent damage to nerves. It can cause mobility issues and other unpredictable symptoms.

There is no cure for multiple sclerosis but there are treatments that can help manage symptoms and modify the course of the disease. Research and treatment breakthroughs have come a long way and have made the complications with the disease manageable and preventable.

Multiple Sclerosis can be unpredictable. Some days a person may need extra assistance in the day-to-day activities. Having an experienced caregiver to help with everyday tasks can make a tremendous difference to someone living with a disease like MS. If you or someone you know suffers from MS, HomeCourt Home Care is here with a wonderful staff of caregivers that can help!
